I can’t believe I am going to give away one of my most requested recipes! The thing is…it’s not my recipe and it’s so simple that I think it’s only fair to share it. At least one person asks me for the recipe each time I serve this, so it’s time I let everyone in on a not-so-secret, secret recipe.
Everyone knows I like to do things up a little ‘fancy’ in the kitchen, especially for a party. However, striking a balance between fresh, delicious homemade food and managing to produce it all can be challenging for anyone. So every good hosts needs a few semi- homemade tricks up their sleeve.
My friend Tina gave me this ‘trick’ in the form of sweet and sour meatballs. It has made an appearance at more of our gatherings and parties than I care to admit! The ingredients sure aren’t fancy, but the result is delicious, easy and just what a host needs in their back pocket as an addition to any occasion, and for any age guest.
For this recipe, I use Ikea or Trader Joe’s brand of cocktail size meatballs but any brand will do. I would say make your own, but that would defeat the purpose of this being a easy addition trick to your spread!
2.5 pounds of frozen cocktail meatballs
3/4 of a jar of Heinz chili sauce (about 8 oz)
About 6-8 ounces of grape jelly
1. Place meatballs in a crockpot
2. Combine the jelly and chili sauce in a small sauce pan and heat on med-low and stir to combine. It doesn’t need to be perfect, just to break down the jelly enough to mix it in.
3. pour the mixture over the meatballs and stir to coat.
4. place the crockpot on low for about 2 hours or until heated through.
This is truly a ‘set it and forget it’ recipe!
Next time you have a soiree, be sure to give this ‘easy as pie’ recipe a try! I can guarantee you someone will ask you for the recipe!
