Kokoro, Greenwich CT

Did you ever walk into a place that has recently changed hands and actually felt angry that it changed hands? Thats how I felt walking into Kokoro. I use to love the wine bar that use to be in its place. I would sit with my over priced montepulciano and nibble on a cheese platter. I’m angry that its gone.

But I couldn’t let disappointment keep me from trying Kokoro because I have heard excellent things about it. I needed to find out for myself what all the hype was about.

Well, I can tell you this- I fell in love with Sashimi all over again. It was like discovering it for the very first time. The fish was delicate, fresh and prepared perfectly. I know there are people out there who are saying to themselves, “How can you screw up sashimi- its raw fish.” Well to those people I say, eat more sashimi! You will discover that it should be cut very thin, have a lightness to it that doesn’t require excessive chewing and be cut across the grain with some fish and with it when preparing others. Its an art form and when you have properly prepared sashimi- you will know it.

We sat at the sushi bar and we served complimentary seared white fish in a spicy broth by the sushi chef. One word- delicious. We had a very simple, chefs choice sashimi platter and with each piece of fish, I truly loved it more than the piece before. Its sexy and silky and full of delicate flavors. I just loved it!

Although the food was superb, the service was not. Our server did not speak English very well and so communication was difficult. Our meals were not effected but our cocktail order was screwed up twice and all we ordered was a bottle of sake. Other than that- I am very excited to go back.

Now, I just need to find a new wine bar…

This Restaurant is now closed. They were always packed and no one seems to know what happened. They were there one day and gone the next.
